The path of an early career researcher in geography (or any field) can often feel like walking a tightrope, balancing the pressure of writing a thesis, navigating precarious contracts, and facing the uncertainty of post-PhD life. The emotional weight that follows it can increase the feelings of isolation, even when surrounded by colleagues, friends and family.
Acknowledging these challenges, the cornerstone of YES! is to build and keep a network that is not only professional, but also supportive. Especially when these connections stretch across borders. A transnational network of peers can offer both motivation and meaning in a career path that can at times feel quite overwhelming.
Of course, connecting across different time zones and personal workloads isn’t always easy. But it’s worth it! These connections remind us that we’re not alone and that our struggles and joys are shared and cross-scalar.
To put this belief into action, beyond our regular monthly gatherings, we’re launching a new space for solidarity and support:
✍🏽 YES! Collective Online Writing Sessions
Where: Zoom – Permanent Link
When:
17 October
14 November
12 December
Time: 2:00 PM (CET)

Just as our gatherings, these sessions are spaces of care. They’re about building a rhythm together, offering each other small accountability boosts, connection, and space to breathe.
Whether you’re finishing your thesis, starting a postdoc, or navigating the in-between, come write with us! Let’s make space for both our work and our well-being, one session at a time.
